Do we need 8 cups of water per day?

Models swear by it, gym rats lug around dumbbell sized jugs of it, and none of us can survive more than a few days without it. And yet, over 75% of Americans aren't getting enough of it… We’re talking water, the most essential component of our daily diets. We’ve all heard that we need 8 cups of water a day - but where did that come from, and Is it true? The fact is: While the magic number certainly isn't a bad one to aim for, most of us need much more than that, and one size doesn't necessarily fit all. In fact, the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine determined that men need about 15.5 cups (1 gallon) of fluids a day, whereas women tend to require about 11.5 cups (or just over 90 ounces) on average. This of course, can vary based on your lifestyle — what exercise you’re doing, your diet,  the seasons, and more.  It’s also not just during the summer that you have to worry about dehydration either. In winter, we’re often turning up the heat, not eating as many hydrating foods (like fresh produce), and are often opting for warmer beverages to stave off the winter chill. Maybe you’re feeling that ‘afternoon slump’ year round — which often is a sign that you’re dehydrated (especially after all those morning espressos!) So what should you do? The answer might be more simple than you think - and a piece of advice we’ve all likely rolled our eyes at more than once: Drink more water!

Unfortunately, this advice often goes in one ear and out the other - and what’s more - most people don’t know just how important it is to get crystal clear on what’s actually inside your water bottle in order to reap all the potential health and wellness benefits. While water is a natural resource that is readily available to most of us - and with hundreds of brands to choose from for convenient hydration on the go - all brands are NOT created equal, and some may be less ‘all-natural’ and more ‘smoke & mirrors’ than they seem… Ever have a cup of water and still feel thirsty? There are many brands on the market stripping common tap water of ALL minerals during processing and then ‘enhancing’ it later by adding in the ones they want for taste, function or hydration. Some have even been caught disposing of harmful chemicals from their processing plants or been taken off the market entirely. This is why looking for a brand that uses real water from a fresh spring or natural artesian source, which hasn’t been overly processed,  ‘ultra purified’, or artificially enhanced is key before you start guzzling bottles in good faith.

1907Water comes from an ancient underground aquifer, carbon dated at 50,000 years old. It’s a renewable resource as the water comes from snowmelt and rainwater in the uninhabited Kaimanawa Ranges in New Zealand. Travelling over 130 miles through volcanic rock and sandstone before collecting in our artesian aquifer 680 feet directly below our bottling facility - these rocks not only infuse the water with minerals but also acts as protection from surface pollution and man-made contaminants. The naturally occurring electrolytes in 1907Water (such as calcium, magnesium, potassium and sodium) are perfect allies for whole-body hydration, and replenishing essential vitamins and nutrients in your system. On top of that — our water is naturally alkaline which rebalances and replenishes our bodies from an acidic lifestyle caused by stress, poor sleep, and diet such as caffeine, sugar, and processed foods/beverages.
